Friday Photo Editing

April 11, 2014 · In: Uncategorized

1. Thank you so much for participating in the latest giveaways! We have our winners.

2. I got a new “toy.” I downloaded a trial of Photoshop to see what it’s all about.

Up until now I have been using GIMP. Then I downloaded some actions. Check this out.

The first cake photo is a raw photo and the next three are using actions (basically multilayered/one-click filters).

DSC02962 - Version 2 lux cake BW Cake Filter cakeThe original is so harsh to me. It’s all a matter of taste but these others are so much more artsy and dreamy. Which one is your fave? I think I’m hooked! Now I’m working on developing a “look” for my photos. I hope to deliver some better photos to you!

3. I worked on my baby blanket for hours and then realized I made some little mistakes…not sure what I’ve done so I’ll be stopping by my yarn shop to talk with my teacher today! lol

OK, lets’ be honest-I totally cried! AH! It was good to set it aside for a bit. I had been dealing with a little remorse about the type of yarn I chose and this may be a reason to get a different kind!

4. I’m finally learning to take on less and relax more. It’s really a matter of necessity…this third trimester is in full swollen and fatigued swing!

5. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!! I appreciate all of the amazing comments! Thank you!

Yes, consistency is key! I’m still working on that. Yes, I had Gimp on MAC. It’s pretty great!

I just downloaded it and I’m lost! I’ll give more time to search how to use it.. It’s my first time to use an app similar to Photoshop 🙂

I really really like the second and the fourth! And oh my gosh, that cake is totally amazing!
I am so sorry about the baby blanket – it sucks when you put so much work into something and then you are not happy with the result! You are much more patient than I am, there is no way I would have even stuck with it this long! I am utterly craft-impaired!

My coworker just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl 🙂 she did say that the third trimester was uncomfortable and being at work didn’t really help. So hopefully you can relax more and have an enjoyable last couple of months being pregnant before the baby comes!! 🙂

I used to have Photoshop back in the days and I used it a lot, you can do so many creative things! But I haven’t had it for a few years, I should probably give it a go again soon. I like all the picture, but I think the last one is my favorite. Have a lovely weekend!

Good work! Isn’t it amazing what you can do with a few little settings? I have been using Photoshop for several years, all through design school and after in my big girl jobs. It’s an awesome program! When I got a new computer I didn’t want to splurge for Photoshop so I downloaded GIMP. Honestly, I think it does a pretty good job and is very similar to Photoshop. Granted, it probably doesn’t do all of the fancy tweaks that you get with a professional program but (so far) I think it does what I need it to, which is primarily creating various layers and text along with basic photo edits. I will say that it doesn’t seem as user friendly. That also could just be my learning curve.

I love your Photoshop work… I think my favorite is the third version. Aww, I feel so bad that you cried over the baby blanket!! I do hope you get to fix it! Relax and take care of yourself this weekend, my friend. Being in the homestretch of pregnancy means you totally deserve some downtime!! xoxo

Cool, Abby! Thanks! AH, yes, I cry a lot now with these hormones! It’s not too bad. I’m getting used to it! LOL. I went to the shop and they taught me how to fix my mistakes without taking everything out! Yay! Back on track and ready to get this done on time! XOXO

I’ve been using inkscape for awhile. Tim put photoshop and lightroom on my computer but they are so confusing to me. I need to watch some tutorials or something.

OOOO I love hearing about programs that are new to me. I’ll check out Inkscape. Yes, Photoshop and Lightroom are a bit overwhelming at first. I am thinking that GIMP does the job for Photoshop but Lightroom has awesome preset (filter formulas) capabilities! I’ll do a review when I’m done with the 30 day trial!

I love how actions transform your photos with one click. I really like how the soft tones play up the softness of the petals in the second one. Hope you work out the baby blanket issues. No matter what you’re making it with love and that’s the best thing about it 🙂 Enjoy your weekend Christina!

I love the third photo. It has a sweet, vintage feel. I am a terrible blogger because my photos are straight up iPhone photos, hahaha! These are all gorgeous!
I have cried during many a crochet project. Hope you get it straightened out! Have a great weekend lady!

I like the second picture the best! I need to learn how to use my dlsr camera (that I got for Christmas…I can’t believe its April already) and get photoshop. Those two things are on he list. Don’t worry about the baby blanket. They will probably throw up on it within the first five minutes, lol! My daughter spit up on at least 5 outfits a day. In all seriousness though, maybe this is an opportunity to change t the yarn you want. I can’t wait to see a picture of the finished project! I hope you have a fab weeks and feel good! Try to take it easy! Pam

You know, I’m trying out Lightroom and Photoshop for the 30 day trial. You can subscribe to both for a total of 9.99 (with a year contract) if you like. I am actually liking Lightroom more right now (since I have been used to using GIMP and it’s free). So I’ll do a review at the end of this. You had me laughing about the baby throwing up on the blanket. Thank you for the laugh! Have a great weekend!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
