Knit Life

May 5, 2014 · In: Uncategorized

Knitting Knitting-8 Knitting-7Happy Monday! Oh what did I do this weekend while my husband was canyoneering in Utah with his friends? I was knitting! I am totally in love with my knitting circle of friends! If I’m ever stuck, kind of staring at my piece, someone will come over and help me figure it out.

During a steamy story about a two-day date one lady was sharing (you know what I mean), I got messed up on my hat! HA! Working with those four/five knitting needles looks crazy but seriously it was super easy. I made the hat a bit larger so it would be ready for a sixth month old baby in December.

Charlie was the only person I had to try it on. Not too shabby. He hated it.

Do you make anything?

Thank you, Pamela! I know, even with all the mistakes I see in the blanket I’m working on, I think, “It’s love!” 🙂

Omg Christina I hope you’ve been doing well! I have been so MIA from blogging world but of course had to stop by and see how you and baby were doing! That hat is absolutely adorable!!! I’ve always wanted to learn how to sew and knit from my mom but she always tells me I’m not patient enough haha.

SAM! There you are! 🙂 Missed you! You know there are those things like baking that are so wonderfully gratifying and can take just a few hours (or a few days depending) but these longer projects are sometimes daunting! 🙂 The hat is cool b/c it’s so quick. The blanket I’m working on, however is almost halfway done and I don’t know how that story will end! Your pastries show that you totally have patience! 🙂

Nice, Wendy! Lol Me too. Especially in my kitchen. Knitting the blanket I’ve been working on has been like a half marathon. Not a whole marathon b/c it’s just a baby blanket, so it’s smaller. LOL

Meg, I was totally like you. My brain could only comprehend crocheting. It’s like in Zoolander where the model guy could only turn right. HA! I really needed the class. A background in crochet REALLY helped. It’s not like golf and tennis where I would be at one an not the other on a given day! 🙂 I hope you try it! 🙂

Oh my gosh. That hat! And on the dog! The only thing I actually made for my daughter was a crib mobile out of buttons and scrapbook paper.. Whereas my husband built her changing table and a side table! I am more the buying type..

Pwahahah. Charlie is so patient with me. Hey, a crib mobile is totally on my list! That sounds awesome! WOAH he BUILT her changing and side table?! Incredible!! I’m the crafty one in this house. Chris is the buyer…but wow, if he could learn how to build things, that would be SO RAD!!!!

Love the hat! My Charlie loves wearing clothes, but hats he hates. I have a feeling I would get the same look from him if I tried to put the hat on him too! I would love to learn someday. I love boot socks, but they are ao expensive. I would like to learn how to make my own. Or I could always just hire you to be my official boot sock maker! Haha

The class was the only thing that was going to keep me on track and motivated! It was SO much easier than trying to teach myself from online tutorials. I’m also such a fan of the sweet community at the store I go to. I just sit and listen! LOVE that! I hope you take a class…you can have some warm things made in time for winter!

Even if Charlie didn’t seem too impressed it’s a cute hat, I love the color! 🙂 I used to knit when I was younger but I haven’t tried it in years! But I think it seems to be a pretty relaxing and fun thing to do! My mum used to be a knitting queen so I might ask her to learn me some tricks 🙂 Have a lovely week!

Thank you, Niina! The yarn is so soft and it slightly changes from blue to green and back again. Oh, you’re lucky you have your mom as a go-to! My mom is in Seattle so I had to find someone here in LA. I hope you pick it up. I totally see you in fluffy hats you make!

I, too, have wanted to learn to knit! Clark has a beautiful knitted blanket that he has slept with since day one. It has a large open knit, so it’s perfect. And he LOVES it! It’s so cute to watch him snuggle it now! I would love to learn to make something like it…eventually!

Oh knitting has always been on my list and I am SO happy I started! I take a class once a week and just go in to knit with the ladies every once in a while. I am working on a blanket too. They take a while to do…hope I get it done in time! Love a large, open knit! You are so lucky to have one for him! If you start with a hat or scarf in a class, you’ll feel like you can do anything!!! Wish we could knit together!! XO

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
