Montana, Sunburns & Why I Don’t Need Matches

May 19, 2014 · In: LIFESTYLE, Uncategorized

Montana and Grandpa'sMontana and Grandpa's-2 Charlie Pool-4 Montana and Grandpa's-5Saturday school is NEVER going to feel right! During high school in Maryland, my little sister and I would go to Korean language/culture classes all Saturday morning. PS I was very behind for my age so as a 16 year old, I was in class with my sister’s grade (6 years my junior).

Chris and I had a childcare class for 4 hours on Saturday. Our teacher is like a funny grandma. It helps.

Afterwards we were in NEED of getting that WEEKEND feeling so we headed over to a cafe on Montana. Montana Ave. is the locals’ spot of Santa Monica for food and shopping whereas Third Street Promanade is more touristy (but still awesome).

Then we totally ordered a Pinkberry bomb of a sundae and I wanted a photo of how big I felt/looked afterwards!

In an email to a friend last night I told her that if I were in a survival situation at this point, I wouldn’t need a match for a fire because of the friction between my thighs now. TMI?

On Sunday we needed more weekend vibes so we headed over to Chris’ family’s house for pool time. I’m wearing a grandma hat, tshirt covering a bikini and doing the splits (preventing forrest fires). It felt SO good and of course we got awesome sunburns so we feel like it’s really summer now.

Charlie really looked interested in the pool so Chris gave him a little half-dip.

I’ve never seen Charlie PASS OUT in the car before but this was him on the ride home.

I’m looking for that body glide that I used when training for the half marathon a million lifetimes ago.

Yay for the pool day! It really is almost starting to feel like summer! I actually went to the beach this weekend and got to sit for a bit without freezing so I say we’re making progress towards summer. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!!

OH YES SUMMER! It was probably my last water activity without a child! AH! LOVED feeling weightless in there. I love YOUR water time! I put down a comment but had some trouble logging in so it came in anonymous! 🙂 East Coast summers are different and have their charms! I remember jogging around the mansions in Newport as the weather warmed up. So gorgeous and very Gatsby!

I wish every restaurant had beautiful floral arrangements like these. Honestly, the flowers were better than the food here! LOL The atmosphere made up where the food was lacking. I can appreciate that! 🙂 Thanks!

Yeah Saturday classes just don’t feel right 🙂 When I was in elementary school my mom sent to me Chinese school on Saturdays and boy did I ever hate it. She let me quit after 3 years when she got sick of doing my homework. I was just not into it then and I had such a hard time writing with a brush. I wish I was better about it now cause them I’d be somewhat literate but at least I can speak it. Fun pics!

look at how cute you are! I’m so jealous of your nice, warm weather. Today I had to wear a light jacket into work and I was still cold on the walk! hahah to Charlie on the way home. I love when Allegra passes out like that. It’s a sign of a good day!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
