A Leg Lamp To A Legacy

March 25, 2014 · In: MONEY, Uncategorized

driftwood

I love hearing the back story of how super talented, successful people surpassed their goals. A little seed to a forest.

Years ago, I was rooming with some other female Officers on a ship for just a couple of weeks. I was chit chatting with one of the ladies and asked what her husband did for work. She shyly asked, “Have you seen A Christmas Story?” “Yes, of course,” I said. “Well, he makes leg lamps just like in the movie and ships them to people,” she replied.

I thought this was one of the coolest, most inventive things I’d heard of. REALLY?! I liked the riskiness of it. He even made those “FRAGILE” crates as an option for packaging. Well, years later I saw on The Today Show that this guy had bought the original movie home and turned it into a tourable museum. He had also bought the place across the street and used it as a gift shop.

Amazing. This was the unemployed guy with leg prototypes littering he and his wife’s garage as he developed the perfect replica from the movie.

I can never get enough of these stories. If there’s a little something you have thought of trying, please keep working on it. Then please tell me about it!

I love it when people I know do random things – not just “teacher” or “accountant” or random job at some big company.

You said it! I love a person who believes in themselves and what they projects. At the same time…do you watch Shark Tank…some people put all their money in and are told their product stinks! LOL THEN they’re really in it for the right reasons!

That’s awesome! I want to buy one now to show my support! I dont know what I would do with it but I still want one. I was just explaining to my daughter this morning that I am so inspired by people that hustle and work hard to get where they are.

I had to simplify weight loss because I have so many other things I want to pour my energy into!

You see me doing a million things but I’m actually impatient and lazy. I’m a Taurus who loves to lounge and eat donuts.

I found a way to eat donuts, lose weight and do it with the least effort.

The food is easy. The prep is easy. I don’t even think about it anymore.

I started my journey in the summer and it was the best life upgrade of the year.

There have been times when I thought gosh how did I get into this situation?

I had to remind myself that I could get myself out of it.

I had to remind myself that I had the power to create the life that I wanted.

I hope there’s something that you want that you’ve decided to experience for yourself.

1. Tying my worthiness to outcomes- at the end of each day I focus on how the day felt, over what got done.

There are days when I am a super DOER and I also have heartburn.

I want less days like that and more days that feel peaceful regardless of the list.

2. Earning rest-If I feel like eating donuts and sleeping on the sofa all Saturday morning, that’s awesome. Don’t need permission and don’t need to apologize-just enjoy.

3. Saying “I should”- That’s a 100% red flag for something I SHOULDN’T do.

That’s a signal that it’s something that someone else says I should be doing-not my inner authority.

4. Needing things to be hard- I say things like “Show me how easy this gets to be,” (and I believe it). The proof presents itself.

It’s so frustrating to feel like you can’t improve It’s so frustrating to feel like you can’t improve your life. You feel like you need more- money, creativity, luck.

That’s actually not true though.

When I fall into this trap, I do this…

Here’s the trick.

When you ask yourself “why is this so hard” your brain goes to work finding every reason it is.

BUT when you ask “why is this so easy for me?” “Why is it all falling into place?”

Your brain has to find proof of that instead.

Different question. A completely different experience.

Keep asking that question all day! Stop asking “Is it working?” Just do it!

Try it on your house. Your body. Anything you’ve been stuck on and tell me what happens!

Do you use mindset tricks like this?

How many times was I going to send this listing to How many times was I going to send this listing to my friend and my husband, asking if it’s worth a 45 minute drive to go pick this up?

If I waited any longer, it was going to be gone.

But what if that was a sign that it wasn’t for me?

where was my sign from the universe?

I just knew this was going to give our family room the cozy vibe I wanted.

Everything else in the room was new so it needed something to feel warmer, unexpected, collected and personal.

I kept holding the phone up to the couch trying to picture it.

It belonged here.

She was asking $100 and I asked if $80 would be ok. It was deal and we were off on a long trip, deep into the city.

Was this going straight to Goodwill?

She put the cutest note on top and her roommate helped up load it into our truck.

I dumped a bunch of water on it and gave it a good scrub plus some scraping off of candle wax. No problem!

Truly, what’s meant for you will never pass you by.

When you search and shop with that vibe, all the right stuff will arrive in your feed and you’ll get the perfect piece.

No kidding, within a day of DECIDING my coffee table was going to be on Marketplace, it showed up.
