Christmas Home Tour 2023

December 25, 2023 · In: Design, Holiday

What an amazing holiday! I’ve got a little Christmas home tour to share with you to give you an insight into what it feels like around here! I hope this season has you feeling cozy and loved!

We’ve fallen into a nice rhythm of traditions over the years which includes lots of hot cocoa after school days, making cookies for Santa and neighbors over the break and playing board games/with presents ALL day long on Christmas together. Sometimes we add in something like an evening drive or walk to see lights but this is a busy time of year plus a cold or flu could set us off our plans. For this reason I try to keep the “musts list” short.

Decorating with candy canes or those green wrapper/chocolate mint Andie’s candies feels decadent and costs a few dollars. I’m a sucker for holiday mugs and this one is new for this year. Little napkins from Homegoods added a little cheer as well! It’s fun to hunt for these little joys over the fall months.

Photos of past Christmas’ are especially a favorite around here. I love the memories we have of Christmas in Seattle when we lived there or visit my parents. We would visit the Pike’s Market area for a sushi lunch and then grab a drink at a hidden locals bar where the wait staff is rude and the drinks are stiff! 🙂 Then a little shopping for flowers for my Mom and maybe a little Patagonia or Free People stop. I always ask another tourist to take our photo at the front of the market and the kiss pose is my go-to. I highly recommend. 🙂

The Elf is a favorite here. We set a recurring alarm on our phones for 9:30pm during December. The kids just live for this and we oblige. I’ve got a bunch of ideas on this Instagram Video post if you want some inspo!

A very sweet Nativity Scene for the family room to remind us of all the good things this season brings and where it all comes from.

I had heard the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth, did not allow Monopoly to be played at the castle because it brings out the worst in people or something to that effect. Well, it’s a HUGE hit at our house and our very competitive real estate moguls in the making are obsessed. We had the junior edition but the classic version is just too good now that the big boys are older. We played for HOURS on Christmas!

We literally plan a family fight, I mean family photo each year, knowing it’s going to be a sweaty, frustrating challenge. Ha! I mean, getting the outfits together, me running back and forth to the timer and Chris bribing kids with promises of a special treat. I gotta say though that it’s worth it. Sometimes we do a mini session with a photographer and sometimes it’s the self timer at home.

I LOVE getting photo cards from our friends SO much and I hope they love ours as well.

Our diffusers make it so glowy and extra magical during the holidays. More on diffusing HERE.

Each year I have a cute holiday label for Thieves Cleaner, that I send to my customers. We use it to clean our whole home and I love having beautiful labels to gift! More on cleaning HERE.

Last year we started a kids’ room flocked tree and it’s a treat! I love the flocked look and making it super colorful in their room. It’s extra magical before bedtime each night.

The famous “Creepy Santas!” I saw a ton of them in a bin at The Round Top Antiques Fair years ago and regretted not getting them. Each season thereafter, I’d look and then last year, when shopping with my friend, Shelley, she miraculously spotted them!!! I set them in the book bin this year and they have added a sweet bit of nostalgia.

Making cookies for Santa and our neighbors is a favorite pastime of ours!

We are so grateful for this holiday and for little baby girl on the way any day now. Thank you for celebrating with us! If you’re looking for a link, always check out my Like to Know it or send me a DM on Instagram. 🙂 Happy Holidays!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
