Sleep Camel

October 20, 2014 · In: Happiness, Uncategorized

Cowboy Hat BabyWouldn’t it be cool to be able to store things up the way a camel stores water in the desert? I’d be a sleep camel.

Our little home is coming along. I carry the baby around like a marsupial while doing those Playboy Bunny waitress moves (where you bend at the knees and swivel at the waist as if there is a book on your head) while doing laundry and unpacking boxes.  Only I’m wearing my ninja outfit again. Sometimes I outsmart the baby by waking at 4:45 and sneak out of bed to do chores.

Once in a while I research non-toxic baby cribs and then try to find one on Craigslist.

The only complaint I have…I want to do MORE!!!!!! S-a-t-i-s-f-a-c-t-i-o-n! That’s what I live for!! That and credit for finding the best donuts in every town.

Speaking of sweets…Trader Joe’s Carrot Cake (freezer section) is what we enjoy after 9:00 p.m. every night while watching old episodes of Homeland in bed. Is anyone watching this show??!!! LOVE IT. I have to say it would be more convincing if Brody had a real Marine haircut. Womp (new word from sister-in-law)!

I just realized it’s my mom’s birthday-the first one of two that she has. AH!

What kind of camel would you be? Happy Monday!!!! Grant’s wearing his great grandpa’s hat.

Thanks, Amanda! HI! OK, how about an exquisite donut camel? More specifically a Primos Donuts (West LA) Camel. Those things are amazing-all kind of old fashioned/cakey style. It’s so far away now!!! I’ll have to eat like 20 the next time I go up. Thanks for stopping by!

I feel you on the sleep camel thing Christina. If only we could bank and store sleep. Happy Birthday to your mom! Does she have 2 birthdays because she follows Korean calendar? My mom celebrates hers by the Chinese calendar and this year her birthday falls on the same day as my husband’s. Double celebration yay!

Oh you are SOO awesome!! Well the birthday thing is bc she was born during the war in Korea so the office was closed on the day of her birth so the reported date of birth is different from her actual birthday. We love to have her birthday twice or we get off the hook if we forget her first one!! Bahahah

You are too funny! I have missed you and your hilarious observations! I am dressed like a ninja today, too. Head to toe black, baby. But I have bright purple nails so it offsets the darkness. Glad all is going well with the bambino. xo

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
