Name Game

April 30, 2014 · In: BABY, Motherhood

Creation VeniceIMG_4509-1The due date is less than 6 weeks away and we have yet to decide on a name. This is our hot list. Please add something you think would be a good fit!

  • Grant
  • Jack
  • Rhett (Chris isn’t into this one)
  • Drew
  • Rome
  • Roger
  • Robert
  • David
  • Gray
  • Austin

Looks like we’re into what The Baby Name Wizard book calls “brisk, dashing and breezy.” Short is good. I think to myself, “Who sounds dependable, warm, kind, intelligent, sensitive, strong and witty?” At that rate he’s going to have to be named Jesus or something! Remember, I’m Christina and my husband is Chris (Christopher). We’ve got to try something different. Oh, and the dog is Charlie but Charlie is on our maybe list.

Bethany, it’s so nice to see messages from you today!! Yes, Grant and Jack are awesome. Jackson is super cute too. It’s sounding very presidential like Krista says below. I’m kind of into that! I met a woman with a son named Cruz this weekend. So many interesting names out there!!! A friend of mine just named her son Johnson!

I think you should name the baby Fernando. After the bull or after Valenzuela, either is a good pick.

Isn’t that a cool name? It was in the baby book too and I got a cool feeling when I saw it. I just wonder about how that will sound on a future phone call he makes to Verizon for instance….”Brent?” “Rat?” “What is your name, sir?” Hopefully in the future, reception will be crystal clear. lol

You’ve got some solid choices on your list. You may get a better idea once you deliver cause the baby might just look like he should have a certain name. Short is good though cause people always have a tendency to shorten long names. If I had a dollar for every time someone tried to call me Ro ;p Looking forward to seeing what you decide on!

Oh man, not gonna lie, the responsibility of naming someone totally freaks me out! That’s why I don’t have a little list like most girls do. I think boys names are way harder than girls for some reason. I love your ideas and I think you have really unique, yet classic, choices. Grant, Gray (or Grayson?), and Austin are some of my faves. 🙂 Good luck in choosing! I’m sure you’ll settle on something perfect!! xoxo

Look, Abby, I’m there with you! Having the baby is the least of my worries! LOL It’s the naming that’s got me crazy! HA! I DO think boys are harder. I never had a “baby name list” growing up. Although I DID name every baby doll , Sally. HMM. I love how many of the readers are digging the G names! Cool! I love them too. Thank you so much!!! XO

Thank you, Jackie! We do like the classics. Here in California (maybe that’s everywhere too now) we hear so many “alternative” names so I get caught up in those sometimes. Just like picking an engagement ring, I want something that I’ll like forever. lol. Thank you!

My two favorite baby names for boys are Rory and Shane. Those are not listed but thought I could add them as a write in ballot, lol. Baby naming is so freaking hard. Just remember as long as you don’t go with anything too funky it will be fine. I would still love my daughter and think she was amazing even if her name was toaster. When you are preggo it feels like their name will determine who they will be in life but that is not true at all. P.S. We AGONIZED over names. We had full blown arguments. It was horrendous. In the end we went to the hospital with no name and when my hubby saw how uncomfortable I was during labor he relented and we named the baby, Taylor. P.P.S. Taylor hates her name and wishes we had named her Rosie after the sister on Caillou. LMFAO!

Rory is SUCH a cool name….my mom is Korean and it would just be cruel to make her try to say this American name!! HA! It is so hard. Hilarious that your daughter has a specific name she wishes she had…come to think of it, I love the name Lisa Marie (my bff in kindergarten) and suggested it as a name for my little sister. She DID get the middle name Marie from that! LOVE that you had full blown arguments. LOL Chris and I visit the list every few days and do a couple “eh” “oh” “eee” kind of things and forget about it again. I think we’ll bring the list to the hospital at this point! Thank you so much!!!

A girl I went to school with named her son Greyson Cash. I love the name Cash. It reminds me of the good old days with Johnny Cash, Elvis, etc. I’m a huge fan of old fashioned or classic names (ie: my son Jackson Robert and daughter Emma). So obviously I’m partial to Jack. Grant is a great one too. Jackson Grant Warren has a nice ring to it. Sounds presidential! I could go on and on (I loved the naming process) so I’ll stop there before I get too crazy!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
