Survey LOVE Friday!

Brick and Mortar

Hope you are having a wonderful start to the weekend! We’ve got some family fun and a hospital tour this weekend! It’s Easter!

The top fives for this week…

Here’s a place we like to go for happy hour every once in a while. It’s called Brick and Mortar and it’s in the slightly less touristy part of Santa Monica on Main Street. This particular restaurant is off the main street, kind of hidden.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yep, parmesan fries and a beet salad plus pizza. An acupuncturist’s dinner. Totally. You’ve GOT to live a little. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Brick and Morter

The other 4 of the week were the responses to the survey!!

Thank you again for taking the time!

1. Here is how responders rated their post interest from MOST Favorite to Least Interested:

  1. Personal/Lifestyle
  2. Happiness/Relationships
  3. Acupuncture/Health
  4. Baby/Motherhood
  5. Food/Recipes
  6. Money

I would love to do more personal/lifestyle posts. These posts are easy and fun. I’m trying to improve my photography and I’m getting more comfortable with being more open. Thanks!

The rest of the category interest levels will help me to look at the percentages of posts I do in those categories.

2. Layout Design:

a. A few people suggested that it would be easier if I did a full post layout on the main page so you don’t have to click on the post of the day to read it. I really like this idea and I’m going to work on it. I do my own programming/layout nowadays so this may take a bit. 🙂

b. Some people find the mobile site difficult to navigate. It is set to be a site where you have to minimize/maximize on a mobile device. You have to do that pinch thing with your fingers to navigate the site.

The benefit of this is that the layout on a computer will show up EXACTLY the same on any mobile device (with minimizing or maximizing). The drawback is the extra step needed to make it readable on a smaller device. Sometimes mobile site programming looks different than the site on a computer. The benefit here is that it’s made to have posts easily read on a mobile device even if it looks  a little different.

Again, now that I’m on my own for programming, I’m going to look into easier ways to make this mobile and I may have to hire some help. Great feedback! I want to make it easy.

3. More sharable posts:

OK, I am so glad you let me know that it wasn’t clear that the images were even pinnable. I added the white overlay and a new Pin It button for images. I hope you like it and encourage you to pin!

I am working on making more pinnable content layouts for the future: recipes, acupuncture, health etc.

4. LOVED seeing your favorite blogs and I’m checking them all out.

Although I addressed the most commented features on the survey here, I absolutely read all the feedback, took it to heart and I am going to continue to tidy up the site.

Have a lovely weekend!!! Thank you for stopping by! Linking up with The lovely Lauren Elizabeth!

Cool! The happy hour has a great selection. On Tuesdays, all the pizzas are half off too! The salad is not on the happy hour menu but I often get that too! You’ll love it! We eat at Senior Citizen time anyway so happy hours rock for us. Oh, get a little burger at Upper West’s happy hour too. DE-LISH! Upper West doesn’t offer their happy hour menu. You have to usually ask for it-check online for details. Cute place. Happy Friday!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
