Bach Flowers: A Simple, Natural Remedy For Emotional Balance

April 8, 2014 · In: Bach Flowers, Uncategorized

Bach FlowerIn a previous post I alluded to natural remedies for balancing your emotional vibrations and you showed interest! I was specifically referring to Bach Flower Remedies.

British founder, Dr. Edward Bach, developed a series of 38 flower essence remedies. Each flower is picked at it’s height of  bloom, sun-steeped in spring water and that essence is preserved in brandy (or alcohol free in glycerin). Each flower is associated with balancing a specific emotional imbalance.

You can take a flower essence/remedy by itself or combine them. One of the most famous combinations is called Five Flower Remedy, otherwise known as Rescue Remedy. I first heard of Rescue Remedy as a good treatment for nervous pets like when they have to go to the vet or get kenneled.

In my practice I would combine multiple flower essences in a bottle for my patients, based on their particular needs, to take home and use as needed. They traditionally come in a little bottle and are administered via dropper, placed under the tongue.

I would sometimes make bottles as gifts like a “holiday bottle,” containing flowers that can help with the hurried, family dynamics, etc of the holidays.

You can buy these at many health stores like Whole Foods or even online.

There are multiple ways to find a flower essence to fit your needs. One way is just by reading about them. You can find a list briefly describing each flower essence here.

Here’s an example.

Agriomony: The mask or brave face. It is the feeling of hiding behind a mask of falseness, often cheerfulness. This feeling tone can lead to addiction or other copping mechanisms of escape.

Each is associated with an affirmation.

I am finding peace within myself.
I allow others to see me as I really am.
You can find one set of examples HERE.
I’ll be doing a feature where I describe each one in more detail and then we can talk about combinations and more.

Let me know what questions you have!

My boyfriend’s family’s dog is always nervous/angry (he goes from calm to wanting to bite your fingers off in the next second). I wonder if flower essence would work on him!

Whoah! Nervous pets are so challenging! Rescue Remedy is great for pets. Some people put a few drops in their water bowl or directly into the mouth.

Oh it is really exciting to be the first to introduce you to this! Bach Flowers are so subtle and powerful at the same time. I studied them with a few teachers and use them for so many things. I love to give them to friends and patients. I’m excited to share more! Thank you for your interest and encouragement!

Yes, the pets LOVE it. I know people who use Bach Flowers with their horses, dogs etc. As I commented above-you can drop a few drops in their water or right into their mouth. Check out Whole foods or a natural pet food store!

This sounds really interesting. I do not know much about them but I am very intrigued by natural remedies. I just do not like the idea of putting so many chemicals inside my body.

I feel the same. It’s nice to have an arsenal of natural cures for things so you can both treat yourself as well as save the strong stuff for when you really need it.

I hope you love it! It is so easy and so powerful! I used it so much in practice and patients always asked for it so I just made it a part of every treatment where I would administer whatever they needed during the appointment.

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
