H54F: Housewarming

November 22, 2013 · In: TMI, Uncategorized

Happy Happy Friday, little readers (I put “little” in front of everything I like). I’m kicking off the weekend with some Jen time at her house today and then a UCLA basketball game. So excited to be back on campus. I love that school! LA is SO basketball too so this is going to be a lot of fun. DATE NIGHT! What are you up to?????

Here are 5 FAVES of the week:

1. Paper Karma: A new app I learned about on TV this week. You can un-subscribe from junk mail by taking a photo of your address on the piece of mail. I’m going to try it out!

2. A little welcome coupon and holiday catalog from my “friends” at Pottery Barn. I fantasize about the next thing I want from here. I love to get “big” items from here and the rest from Home Goods. I probably look at their holiday catalog like 10 times-amazing since any other magazine/catalog may get a once-over. I’m training my “designer” muscle more lately.

3. Homemade organic tzatziki for our falafel. I put TONS of it on everything. We had the falafel along with rice and brocolini.

4. Discovering my new favorite plant and comparing prices from plant nurseries to Home Depot. I found this super tall (7-8 foot) Fiddle-leaf Fig tree at home depot while looking for a tabletop plant. I LOVE the look and I’ve seen them on lots of decorating blogs.

I was hoping to then find a small one but Home Depot no-have. 🙁 I stood in the plant department, Yelping nearby nurseries and came across Rolling Hills who said they had lots of ’em in differing sizes. THEY said they had these big ones for upwards of $400!!!! Off I went to find my mini version.

5. Backtrack-I found this pot at Home Depot (again-Jen and I saw it last week when we were shopping for living room plants and I loved it but didn’t need this size and wasn’t sure the colors would go). So happy the pot was still there! I know, totally posted this on instagram but had to tell you the “back” story triumph here.

Have a wonderful weekend, lovelies!

It looked so bad but wasn’t sure if it was just cosmetic thing or something I should get checked out for my health.

I was avoiding it and “waiting until I had time” to deal with it as a mom of 4.

I finally made time and l’m so glad I did.

This was the start of my health journey at 45.

This makes our weekdays so much less chaotic, and I don’t feel like a scullery maid-I feel like I have a personal chef!

I get to focus my time and energy on connecting with the kids or taking a moment to rest.

Throw these together really quickly this weekend for a smooth week.

The mini meat loafies are a quick snack, packable lunch item or dinner main.

The turkey taco meat is so quick and you can make so many different dishes with it.

I like to cook my veggies day-of or have some washed and prepped in containers.

Have you considered a “pattern interrupt” element Have you considered a “pattern interrupt” element to design your space and make it stand out?

A design element that just doesn’t make total sense but adds the zest to the room that just makes it?

But why is it so hard to figure out the exact thing that will make your space special?

You’re an emotional decorator! You’re someone who walks into a room and knows she loves it but can’t explain why.

I’m here to help!

This iconic kitchen from It’s Complicated, is so funny because Jane is in the works to finally renovate to get her DREAM KITCHEN and we would all love to have this one as it is right now!

Why?

Notice that there are layers of detail from floor to ceiling and even ceiling!

If you want your home decor to feel cozy, there’s nothing like decorating every surface.

Keep it neutral if too much business overwhelms you.
When I spotted this window shelf in the movie, I thought it would be the perfect way to add some interest to our very boxy dining room-my pattern interrupt.

All the moms at the mommy and me meetup looked so All the moms at the mommy and me meetup looked so amazing. I wondered what their secret was.

When was I going to bounce back like that?

Everyone was being vulnerable so when it was my turn I said, “I still can’t fit into my old jeans.”

One of the moms looked at me and said, “I just bought new jeans.”

I was shocked! She looked amazing!

I thought that if I bought jeans for my current “larger size” as in “not my ideal size,” it would mean I was settling for my current state that I didn’t want.

Then it hit me.

When you see yourself as worthy and do things that make you feel great-like new clothes that fit, your mind does something you’re not even aware of.

when your brain says, “I look cute” then you’re just going to continue to look better on a subconscious level.

Why?

Your self image improves and when it does, you do things in alignment with a good self image like eating better or moving more or learning how to do your hair at its best!
