The Thing I Get Asked About A Lot

November 19, 2013 · In: Favorites, Me and Chris, ROMANCE, Uncategorized

St. Peter's Basilica

“Things you don’t know about me” has been trending on Facebook lately and one of my favorite bloggers is running an FAQ video series. You have those questions that people seem to ask you all the time. Something about what you do or who you are or how you look gets people curious about something. Many people (women) ask me to tell them how I met my husband, Chris. What a sweet question that I LOVE to answer. The usual, quaint, brief story I give is:

Our mutual friends, Isaac and Stephanie set us up. Isaac and Chris were friends since middle school. Stephanie and I met in graduate school (acupuncture). Stephanie was always fond of Isaac’s friend, Chris. When we finally came together, it felt right from the start with a lot of laughing.

Often though, it seems like what the ladies are really asking is, “How did you attract the love of your life?” Since you are reading my blog I am going to get personal now.

One reason I feel both humble and confident about calling Chris “the love of my life” or my “perfect partner” is because I have been married before. The path that I had taken to him was a conscious path of reinvention, prayer and luck.

Very soon before I met Chris, my cheery, positive attitude about one day being with “the man of my dreams and having a family” fizzled to nothing and for two weeks there was a period of hopelessness (of love).

In those two weeks, I barely spoke to anyone other than people at work (my patients). I was so thankful to be wrapped up in their treatments and concerns. For hours after the workday, I sat and stared off into the distance and thought of nothing. Some people call this meditating. Others may call it COOKOO. After a few days of staring in the evenings, I switched into extreme OCD mode, organizing my life down to every little detail. My practice was growing quickly and I looked for a nicer place to live.

Once the ducks were in a row, I employed the help of some friends. I took up my friend Stephanie’s offer to tie on a prayer bracelet she had brought back from Brazil. You can read more about it here. I wanted to set the intention of attracting my mate. I wanted to let him know I was ready.

A 100 year old nun and patient at the clinic was always so kind to me. She was from an all-religion-inclusive type of church. She reminded me of nuns I knew growing up. I sincerely asked her if she would pray for me. “Write it down for me on a piece of paper,” she said. When she looked down at the paper, she looked up at me in surprise. “That’s what you want,” she asked in disbelief. “More than anything,” I said. Then I prayed. I wrote and I prayed some more. I wasn’t on any online dating sites. I didn’t take up any blind date offers. I stopped noticing who was in line at the deli. I was waiting for him to find me. When he found me, I knew he wouldn’t let me go.

I worked hard and my practice was doing so well. The friends I surrounded myself with were supportive examples. I spent time with my friends who were married, with children and role models to me.

There were hours a day dedicated to daydreaming and cultivating my best self.

I had reinvented myself but really I had tapped back into my truest self. Instead of focusing on who Mr. Right was or daydreaming of being “saved” (gag and p.s. the “being saved” fantasy was a very brief period) I was becoming Mrs. Right. Manicured nails, self-confidence, a great work out regimen, self-supporting, cute condo by the beach and all the self-discipline of a lady. Does it sound like gloating? Well, I looked at it as hard work and focus. I was my best version of myself. The days of disappointment were over. It was only possible to attract a match, no one who didn’t make the cut. There was no “well, he’s nice and has a good job.”

I DID make the list for Mr. Right though. It was 11 pages long to be exact. I drew a “picture” of he and I on the white board of my fridge. He was in a nice biz casual outfit because he was a professional and he had really nice hair. I stood next to him with one leg bent in the air. I was kind of jumping up with happiness. He was steady and stood tall.

I knew he was on his way. I actually said aloud to Stephanie once the bracelet was on that he would come around within 2 months. Our courtship would be easy and we’d soon be romantically engaged then married. Then it happened. It was hilarious and it was perfect in the most unexpected but comfortable way.

I always tell people that…pray, pray specifically, and your dreams will come true. Sometimes even sooner than you imagine!

Yup, totally. I can get so caught up in worrying or controlling. Then when I go back to praying, everything works out. Thanks for reading!

How many times was I going to send this listing to How many times was I going to send this listing to my friend and my husband, asking if it’s worth a 45 minute drive to go pick this up?

If I waited any longer, it was going to be gone.

But what if that was a sign that it wasn’t for me?

where was my sign from the universe?

I just knew this was going to give our family room the cozy vibe I wanted.

Everything else in the room was new so it needed something to feel warmer, unexpected, collected and personal.

I kept holding the phone up to the couch trying to picture it.

It belonged here.

She was asking $100 and I asked if $80 would be ok. It was deal and we were off on a long trip, deep into the city.

Was this going straight to Goodwill?

She put the cutest note on top and her roommate helped up load it into our truck.

I dumped a bunch of water on it and gave it a good scrub plus some scraping off of candle wax. No problem!

Truly, what’s meant for you will never pass you by.

When you search and shop with that vibe, all the right stuff will arrive in your feed and you’ll get the perfect piece.

No kidding, within a day of DECIDING my coffee table was going to be on Marketplace, it showed up.

If you’re into the power of your vibes creating your whole world, follow @christinajwarren where we cultivate inner peace to create a beautiful life from the inside out.
I lived with a front door that hurt my eyes to loo I lived with a front door that hurt my eyes to look at, but here’s why that was the best decision.

First of all that kind of glass was giving privacy but really missing out on the beautiful front yard view.

It was also not letting in as much light that it could, which is important for that side of the house because that’s on the sunset side.

It was a little bit warped from being wood and getting a lot of sun over the years.

First I had to figure out what the whole aesthetic of the exterior was going to be. I had a vision of a French country home.

That got me going with colors and then this grid door felt fresh country and was paintable

Even though I wanted to change that door so so badly for so many years, I painted it to have it blended in with our home war but I’m really so glad I waited because now we have the perfect door for the house

If there’s something that you don’t like about your home, it’s OK to wait because the right designs some times comes together over over time.

The trick is having an inner peace and knowing that the perfect solution is out there and will come to you at the perfect time when you’re ready to give it the attention it needs.

It’s like Michelangelo and the David. It was a block of marble and the David was always in there. Your house is the same way.

This kitchen was a bit of a mind bender for me but the weird thing is that it’s not the kitchen that was the problem.

The thing nobody talks about enough in home design and life is that …

You have to see it in your mind first before anything can change.

Once I drew out my designs, collected inspo images and stared at this space long enough, I was able to visualize what I wanted.

The next part kind of just happened.

It’s like a moving train.

Once you set your ideas and intention on the train-it just goes.

You just have to decide you want it.

Everything falls into place. Don’t worry about the how.

I can’t believe I considered keeping that little step wall at the bar!

So happy with how it turned out.

Comment FOOD for my free “What I Eat in a Day to l Comment FOOD for my free “What I Eat in a Day to lose 25 pounds at 45” cheetsheet.

After 6 pregnancies, 4 kids and closing my breastfeeding chapter, I was 45.

I was feeling so grateful but also started feeling really uncomfortable in my body.

I tried doing the things that would get me back in shape before kids but those things didn’t work the same any more.

Did I have to give up “living” aka enjoying delicious food, cocktails…even donuts?

I didn’t want to be a “salad mom” who didn’t enjoy the cake at birthdays or holiday desserts.

I also wanted to feel great in a pair of jeans. Not trying to be who I was before kids, but be the best version of me.

Confident, youthful, vibrant, energetic and excited about the day, not awkward getting dressed.

Our youngest was under 2 and still waking at night. How was I going to do this?

I was trying so hard and nothing was working. I would give up and try something different.

There had to be a way that would work for me, at my age and with my schedule. Something that was simple.

That’s when I learned how to eat in a way that was satisfying.

I became excited about my meals. They hit my goals with protein and nutrition.

Comment FOOD and I’ll send you a free download of my typical day of eating, in photos,  to show you that you can do it too AND feel satisfied.

You’ll also get my free 7 day weight loss email course.

P.S. I still enjoy girls night, donuts and and birthday cake.

Follow @christinajwarren for more transformation after 45 that feels natural and uplifting using small shifts.
We are put on this earth with the purpose to have We are put on this earth with the purpose to have a good life.

When I live in that frame, I choose to do things that light me up and enjoy life.

Good things come- family, work, love.

Then there are times when I got nervous and choose “the right thing.”

But ya know what, everything works out no matter what.

Sometimes leaning into the fears was what I needed so that I could go for what I really wanted.

At 46 I’m still learning to stay in trust, connection, gratitude and detach from my fears.

Beautiful words by the lovely @inagarten
