Hands Down Best Home Facial EVER

March 25, 2013 · In: Beauty, LIFESTYLE

Dr. Hauschka Facial

Here is a post on how I give myself the perfect at-home facial.  I was one of those people who only washed with bar soap for most of my life unless I had a breakout in which case I would resort to Clearisil-type face scrubs… UNTIL my body went through some big changes after I stopped taking BCPs many years ago.

All estheticians have told me that every balanced facial routine includes:

1. Cleansing &  Exfoliating

2. Toning

3. Moisturizing

I use Dr. Hauschka products introduced to me by a Dr. Hauschka certified esthetician in San Diego (missing you!).  Dr. Hauschka products are natural, smell wonderful and keep my skin from being stripped.  I love to buy them on Amazon.com Prime for a great price.  You can also pick them up at Whole Foods, other high-end health stores and from your esthetician.

Let’s Begin!

Step 1: Moisten face with warm water or a warm/wet washcloth.  Place some Cleansing Milk (or gentle non-soap/non-stripping/creamy cleanser) on the buffing sponge and gently work sponge over face in circular motions paying special attention to dry areas or areas of build up.  Rinse cleanser off.

Buffing Sponge- I use these little buffing sponges I find at Target.  They are disposable yet fairly durable.

*you can see the fibrous texture of the pads.  Be gentle!

Here is some information on EXFOLIATING.  I had no idea that dead skin buildup was the reason for some blemishes I had!  Easy fix!  Now, that my skin is smoother, the few times I DO wear foundation, it goes on smoothly and doesn’t irritate my skin.

Step 2: If you need extra exfoliation add this or do this alone if you only need just a little exfoliation.  This product is very gentle, not like the “apricot scrub” I used when I was 15.  Squeeze out a pea sized blob of the deep cleanser/gentle exfolient and rub gently all over the face.  Press and Roll (the Dr. Hauschka method) it into your face.  Rinse it off completely and pat dry.

Step 3: Spray toner all over face.

*Apply all creams while toner is still wet on your face.

Step 4: Take a small amount of the eye cream on the pads of your ring fingers and pat all around the eye area and a little on any delicate face lines.

Step 5:

Day Time-Using as little or as much as you need, pat the Rose Day Cream (or an appropriate moisturizer) all over the face, concentrating on dry areas or areas with fine lines.

Night Time-Press a small amount of the Rejuvinating Mask (or some form of hydrating/soothing night cream) all over your face, concentrating on sensitive areas (breakouts). (If I have to perform any extractions, I ALWAYS do them at night so anything has time to heal for at least 8 hours before I have to see anyone.  I do extractions after cleansing & exfoliating then using the cleansing milk alone and my hands I wash my face again before toner and so on.)  Although it is called a “mask” I leave this one on overnight.  You can even layer the Rose Day Cream on top if you need some extra hydration.

IMG_2338**On extra dry days, right after putting on toner, I will put a little olive oil all over my face and then place a really hot/steaming cloth over my face to hold there and then dab off any excess.  SUPER MOISTURIZING!

Dab on some lip balm and….Voila!

What other tips do you have for a perfect home facial?  What are your go-to products for healthy skin?  I keep hearing a lot about coconut oil.  How do YOU use it/any good links?

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
