Go to Starbucks EVERY Day

February 21, 2013 · In: MONEY

IMG_1988I live in the coffee capital of the world:  Seattle, Washington.  This is the birthplace of Starbucks.  Pictured is the first Starbucks located across from Pike’s Market.  There are a LOT of coffee shops here and if you have ever been to Seattle, you can understand how a caffeine buzz can substitute for the sunshine cortisol boost that we rarely get in these parts.  This is all well and good but this article is less about caffeine addiction and more about the addiction to happy time.

Have you seen one of the many financial articles with tips on banishing hidden-money-sucks from you life?  They always include ditching your Starbucks habit in order to save money (DO ditch coffee if you have a duodenal ulcer or zero money).  I personally know many people who gain so much joy out of their daily trip to see the emerald siren, including me.  Here are some things I have noted from them:

1. “I hate my job and the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning is knowing that I have the commute to enjoy my Starbucks without anyone bothering me.”

2. “A trip to Starbucks is sometimes the only reason to get my baby and I dressed and out of the house.  It is our happy time.”

3. “It’s my post-work out treat!  It actually get’s me to play tennis.  The bonus is that I get to hang out in my tennis outfit for a while off the court.”

My first real job was Starbuck’s Barista.  I was sixteen and living in Potomac, Maryland.  As an employee, you get to have as many drinks as you want when you’re at work.  Honestly, I barely touched the stuff back then.  As I grew up, I started a bit of a caffeine habit.  Like any new junkie, I would try whichever coffee shop was most convenient for my buzz.  Luckily, I could count on a Starbucks pretty much wherever I was.

Top 5 Reasons to “Choose Starbucks” and do it Often:

1. Consistency: The drinks are made to the same recipes wherever you go.  The latte I’ve had in Japan is identical to the ones I drink in Seattle.

2. Guarantee: You can count on loving your drink and if you don’t they’ll remake it for you or make you something else…and they’re nice about it.

3. Food:  There is always some kind of healthy and/or gluten free option whether it be a KIND granola bar or the cut veggie pack.  The calories counts are provided and there are many goodies that come in respectable portions if you so desire.

4. Third Place:  When I worked there about 18 years ago (YIKES!), we were taught that Starbucks was trying to be the “Third Place.”  Third place is not work and not home but the third place.  It has succeeded.  It is a great place to meet people for dates, business meetings, catching up (no need to clean the house for guests), reading, writing etc.

5. I FEEL FANCY when I go to Starbucks.  I don’t shop at Neiman Marcus (yet) but people who shop at Neiman Marcus drink Starbucks because it is good, slightly overpriced and symbolic (altitude and attitude).  When you feel fancy, you ARE fancy.  You are more productive, your self esteem goes up and you are happier.  “Oh, Susan looks so good today, it must be that Starbucks Blonde Roast she’s drinking.”  It probably is.

There are many different ways to  “Choose Starbucks.”  It could be another habit like a magazine subscription, maid service or buying organic.  Have you heard of the saying, “it takes money to make money?” Just as mutual fund investments grow your money, doing things to make yourself happy aid in growing your wealth.  It’s contagious.

P.S. Our coffee was free this morning b/c the wait at Starbucks was long.  What great customer service!!

I am a huge fan (of yours and Starbucks)! For most of us, sitting at a desk all day long wrecks havoc on your back and posture. I use my Starbucks break as an opportunity to get up and walk away from my chair, get some fresh air and forget about the crapstorm waiting for me at the office. =) If every company operated like Starbucks, there wouldn’t be a need for a Complaints Department! xoxox

How many times was I going to send this listing to How many times was I going to send this listing to my friend and my husband, asking if it’s worth a 45 minute drive to go pick this up?

If I waited any longer, it was going to be gone.

But what if that was a sign that it wasn’t for me?

where was my sign from the universe?

I just knew this was going to give our family room the cozy vibe I wanted.

Everything else in the room was new so it needed something to feel warmer, unexpected, collected and personal.

I kept holding the phone up to the couch trying to picture it.

It belonged here.

She was asking $100 and I asked if $80 would be ok. It was deal and we were off on a long trip, deep into the city.

Was this going straight to Goodwill?

She put the cutest note on top and her roommate helped up load it into our truck.

I dumped a bunch of water on it and gave it a good scrub plus some scraping off of candle wax. No problem!

Truly, what’s meant for you will never pass you by.

When you search and shop with that vibe, all the right stuff will arrive in your feed and you’ll get the perfect piece.

No kidding, within a day of DECIDING my coffee table was going to be on Marketplace, it showed up.

If you’re into the power of your vibes creating your whole world, follow @christinajwarren where we cultivate inner peace to create a beautiful life from the inside out.
I lived with a front door that hurt my eyes to loo I lived with a front door that hurt my eyes to look at, but here’s why that was the best decision.

First of all that kind of glass was giving privacy but really missing out on the beautiful front yard view.

It was also not letting in as much light that it could, which is important for that side of the house because that’s on the sunset side.

It was a little bit warped from being wood and getting a lot of sun over the years.

First I had to figure out what the whole aesthetic of the exterior was going to be. I had a vision of a French country home.

That got me going with colors and then this grid door felt fresh country and was paintable

Even though I wanted to change that door so so badly for so many years, I painted it to have it blended in with our home war but I’m really so glad I waited because now we have the perfect door for the house

If there’s something that you don’t like about your home, it’s OK to wait because the right designs some times comes together over over time.

The trick is having an inner peace and knowing that the perfect solution is out there and will come to you at the perfect time when you’re ready to give it the attention it needs.

It’s like Michelangelo and the David. It was a block of marble and the David was always in there. Your house is the same way.

This kitchen was a bit of a mind bender for me but the weird thing is that it’s not the kitchen that was the problem.

The thing nobody talks about enough in home design and life is that …

You have to see it in your mind first before anything can change.

Once I drew out my designs, collected inspo images and stared at this space long enough, I was able to visualize what I wanted.

The next part kind of just happened.

It’s like a moving train.

Once you set your ideas and intention on the train-it just goes.

You just have to decide you want it.

Everything falls into place. Don’t worry about the how.

I can’t believe I considered keeping that little step wall at the bar!

So happy with how it turned out.

Comment FOOD for my free “What I Eat in a Day to l Comment FOOD for my free “What I Eat in a Day to lose 25 pounds at 45” cheetsheet.

After 6 pregnancies, 4 kids and closing my breastfeeding chapter, I was 45.

I was feeling so grateful but also started feeling really uncomfortable in my body.

I tried doing the things that would get me back in shape before kids but those things didn’t work the same any more.

Did I have to give up “living” aka enjoying delicious food, cocktails…even donuts?

I didn’t want to be a “salad mom” who didn’t enjoy the cake at birthdays or holiday desserts.

I also wanted to feel great in a pair of jeans. Not trying to be who I was before kids, but be the best version of me.

Confident, youthful, vibrant, energetic and excited about the day, not awkward getting dressed.

Our youngest was under 2 and still waking at night. How was I going to do this?

I was trying so hard and nothing was working. I would give up and try something different.

There had to be a way that would work for me, at my age and with my schedule. Something that was simple.

That’s when I learned how to eat in a way that was satisfying.

I became excited about my meals. They hit my goals with protein and nutrition.

Comment FOOD and I’ll send you a free download of my typical day of eating, in photos,  to show you that you can do it too AND feel satisfied.

You’ll also get my free 7 day weight loss email course.

P.S. I still enjoy girls night, donuts and and birthday cake.

Follow @christinajwarren for more transformation after 45 that feels natural and uplifting using small shifts.
We are put on this earth with the purpose to have We are put on this earth with the purpose to have a good life.

When I live in that frame, I choose to do things that light me up and enjoy life.

Good things come- family, work, love.

Then there are times when I got nervous and choose “the right thing.”

But ya know what, everything works out no matter what.

Sometimes leaning into the fears was what I needed so that I could go for what I really wanted.

At 46 I’m still learning to stay in trust, connection, gratitude and detach from my fears.
