Tough Mudder Birthday Party

March 31, 2014 · In: LIFESTYLE, Uncategorized

The Tough Mudder is for crazy people who want to run 10-12 miles of steep dirt hills with muddy colossal and electrifying obstacles in between. Fortunately I had a pregnancy note and got to be a spectator for Chris’ very good friend, Rion’s “birthday party.” About 7 weeks ago, Rion informed his good (many out of shape) friends that he would be entering them all in this competition to take place on his birthday. The team has been preparing in many different ways…exercising, you-tube video intimidation emailing and panicking.

Here’s Rion’s wife, Jackie, taking on one of the “Berlin Walls,” one of the near 25 obstacles. Check out those guns!Tough Mudder

You could do a million monkey bars or you can swim across the toxic pool.

All of us had been up since 5:30 a.m. and we left the venue around 6 p.m.Tough MudderThe amazing team!Tough MudderWould you ever do this?! I kind of wish I had!

Oh gosh, no way. I have friends who do these and I’m like, I’ll grab a chair at the finish line and sip some lemonade. But it does look awesome, and I give mad props to all who do it!

LOl- I was exhausted from just sitting there and drinking the lemonade! 🙂 It’s 5 days later and I think I’ve recovered! 🙂

As much fun as that looks, you can totally count me…out. Nope. I hate running. lol! But if I had to, then something fun like this or the color run, I’d probably do since running by itself is just so boring! lol! Funny enough, I used to run cross-country in high school. I blame that. 😀

Lol Oh, the color run! I’ve seen awesome photos and heard really cool things about that. Wow, I never ran much as a kid-totally impressed that you ran cross country. Then I had to run a ton in the military and I was soooo bad at it…especially compared to the six foot tall guys in training with me! After I got out of the military I started running more and for fun b/c no one was yelling at me anymore! HA!

I’ve done the Spartan Race which is really similar!! Overall, obstacle course runs just freak me out since they don’t really tell you exactly what to expect haha.

Oh you are tough, Em!!! Yes, you are right, they only released the course like the night before. I was even a little stressed about it and I wasn’t even doing it! I thought the hard ones were the walls with no foot holds. You are awesome!!

This seems like a pretty fun way to celebrate a birthday! I don’t think we have anything like this in NYC. I’m probably not in the type of shape needed to do something like this but I’d be down for it if I could take my time and there was no mud involved. I feel so prissy saying that lol ;p

LOL The nice thing was that all the groups that went, really stuck together with the slowest person. I would take many months to prepare for this thing! I think the mud was almost welcome in that scorching dry heat! It was incredible!

What a fun (I think at least haha) thing to do for someone’s birthday! 🙂 I’m not sure if I would want to do something like this! One part of me (a big part to be honest) thinks it seems terrible and a one part thinks it sounds pretty exciting!

It was such a great idea. Everyone had such a great bonding experience and I think they were really impressed with what they could accomplish! I was a little envious, I must admit! 😉

My sister works with a group of people who take part in this. And while I think it is seriously impressive that they do complete this I do not think it is anything I could ever do.

It is totally a lifestyle! I think of Crossfit and things like that! It was kind of like a military training obstacle crazy course! I think it is totally one of those things you think is impossible but when you get there…you just have to do it! AH! Maybe next year for me? …maybe not lol

The things that looked most challenging to me were the hills! SO steep. Some people were on hands and knees going up and then sliding on their bottoms coming down! CRAY! I thought they needed more water stations too! It is deserty out there! Maybe someday….maybe someday. 🙂

I have done the Warrior Dash and thought I was going to die. I would absolutely do it again. The tough mudder though – man that race makes my shake in my sneakers. It looks like everyone did pretty well though!

Warrior Dash sounds hard! I asked Chris if he would do this again and he said YES! HA! That’s how I felt after a half marathon though, so I kind of get it in my own little non-muddy way. 🙂 You’re awesome!

I’ve heard of these events too. But I think they are called savage races here in the sunshine state! It looks like so much fun but I do to think I could handle all the mud. (I’m a little OCD and dirt creeps me out!) Not to mention I would probably die of exhaustion trying to get through all the obstacles! You’d probably find me passed out in a mud puddle somewhere.

LOL-SAVAGE race?! That is an excellent name! He’s still got mud coming out of his ears! I can imagine what’s in those mud pits…hmmmm. 😉 I was totally impressed with how well everyone did. I think it IS one of those things you think you’ll pass out on but the energy of the group and everyone out there really propels you! I can say this as I sat in a folding chair and watched. lol

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
