I’ve been practicing this new habit for a few months now and I want to share it with you because it has made a HUGE impact on my days! I want to be conscious of my big picture- family, personal and work goals while feeling empowered to achieve them.
Here’s the thing…when I would make time to “get things done,” I would open up a long list of to-do’s on my phone’s notes app. I would gravitate to the item that would be fastest to accomplish in case…the baby woke up etc. That to-do list item I checked off, wouldn’t always be the item that would “move the needle” on my biggest goals.
I like to work on a project until it is done and some projects (many projects) take more than one sitting. This new discipline is showing me how staying on one task and completing it (even if it takes multiple sessions) leads me to accomplishing my goals.
I focus on accomplishing the most prioritized items and work on them until they are done. THEN I move to the next item. This is the secret sauce!! You will be so much more productive overall, vs checking off a bunch of random to-do items that you could get done quicker or easier.
I do not put a date on them because some days, I take a day off because life things come up or I take a break and sometimes it takes me more than a day to accomplish the next 3 most important action items that lead me to my goals. Some days I add to the list because there is more flexibility!
Having a physical list keeps me off of my phone where I easily get distracted. You may even want a paper that has just 3 things on it to hang on the fridge! Make it work for you!
This book is where I found this methodology! I hope you find this helpful and inspirational!
