Oils are an amazing resource for kids! I’ve used them with our kids from newborn and up (7 now). So grateful to have these tools and so excited to share them with you!
I’m going to show you how simple it can be to use oils with kids of all ages and I’ll have a cheatsheet at the end!
Some ways to use oils with kids (same as adults with some modifications).
*always consult a health professional before administering oils especially if your child is sick
Young Living makes a line specifically formulated for kids over the age of 2, called Kids Scents. These are prediluted! Consider diluting all other oils not included in the Kid Scents line when using with kids. If using Kid Scents with kids under 2, further dilute!
Some oils (not all inclusive list) to avoid with babies:
Wintergreen
Clary Sage
Idaho Tansy
Sage
Hyssop
Eucalyptus
*avoid oils in the bath in case of splashing to protect little eyes
*dilute and test in small amounts first
Introduce oils by wearing a small amount on yourself while holding baby. When using a new oil, dilute even more heavily. Always spot test an oil first. Young Living Safety info HERE.
Best Diffusing Oils for Baby
Start with just a couple drops in the diffuser. The younger the child, the less oils I use.
Best Baby Rollers (see dilution chart for ratios of oils to carrier oil)
Teething
Dilute copaiba vitality oil with fractionated coconut oil and rub onto teething gums. Per Gentle Babies book, “confident moms use neat.”
The easiest way to get started (the way I started) was with a starter bundle HERE. Choose a diffuser you like and add on the “my baby favorites” I’ve curated for you! Message me on @homeandwell with your questions and I’ll voice memo you there.
Our big kids (5 & 7) absolutely love oils and they are a part of our everyday life! They reach for their sleep roller at night and request Kidpower in the diffuser during homework time. The Kid Scents line has been a huge help! Prediluted to use right on kids over 2. I’ll show you what we use!
1. Peace and Calming
2. Lavender and Tangerine
3. Sleepyze
4. Kid Power
This blue, sweet, emotional support magical blend is a household favorite. Make one for your whole family to enjoy! Refer to the dilution chart for total number of oil drops based on age.
10 ml roller recipe
Equal parts:
Frankinsense
Orange (or citrus fresh)
Valor
Stress Away
Fill to top with carrier oil of choice (we love fractionated coconut oil).
This is the easiest and best way to get started with oils! The ways kids need support plus a cute diffusers that’s also a nightlight and sound machine (this one is great for travel too by the way).
Sleepyze- Diffuse or roll on for a calming nighttime routine.
Tummigize-Roll on tummy for digestive support.
Owie-Skin and emotional support. I love to roll this on a bandaid or roll on to calm kids after an owie. Also great for bug bites.
Genyus-Inspiration, positivity and productivity.
SniffleEase- supports those sniffle times. Relaxing and quieting scent. Roll on chest and bottoms of feet.
The bundle comes with a couple roller fitments to turn any of your bottles into an easy to use roll on!
We use them so frequently that we also love the large roll on size set as well. The Kidscents Roller Collection: Same oils, PLUS KIDPOWER, bigger bottles with rollers on them.
Kid Power-Empowering, positive emotional support. Smells sweet and fruity!
The Kid Scents line also has great supplements like the Might Pro prebiotic and probiotic supplement. It comes in individual powder packages and tastes like a pixie stick. We love the Kid Scents lotion and so many more goodies!
