The Simple Life Friday

March 21, 2014 · In: LIFESTYLE, Uncategorized

Happy weekend!! I’m really enjoying my petite, domestic, simple life this week..

1. I’ve decided to break up with dry cleaning for a while. Post to come. There is quite a satisfaction I get from a stack of ironed shirts.
IMG_4081I wanted to get a little artsy with it.

2. This is me every other day. I go grocery shopping a LOT. I just buy a bag at a time and often I walk!

3. I’m trying to really appreciate this bump and the freedom I have before the baby!Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

4. I got my weekly Japanese Ramen outing and it is still the most consistant craving I’ve had.

5. I am so thankful for my blog friends. I love having a community that goes everywhere with me. Thank you. XO

I’m totally impressed with anyone who can properly iron a shirt as I’m total rubbish at ironing. I also have a slight aversion to it as my mom ironed everything when I was a kid even my pjs O_o Now I just steam my clothes and I also avoid buying things that need ironing. We send my husband’s shirts out to be laundered and pressed and I gladly pay the $1.50 as I just can’t do it lol. It must be nice to admire your handiwork when you’re done 🙂 Happy weekend Christina!!

Thank you, Rowena! I learned in the Navy when we learned how to iron our own uniforms! lol OMG My mom used to iron my dad’s underwear! AH! I totally avoid buying dry-clean only clothes now too. I’m going to iron his shirts until the baby comes…then…well, we’ll see! 🙂 Have a great weekend too, Rowena!

Oh, Pamela it’s there! I have a couple and use the EVERY DAY. Seriously spendy (one was a gift from my parents) but cost-per-day makes it so worth it! I am one of those people who buys something good and wears it to death! 🙂 Oh dry cleaning is crazy! Yes, some things just require it though. An old roommate swore by http://www.dryel.com products and she was very particular. Have a great weekend and enjoy those pancakes! Thank you for the link love!

You know, a lot of his work shirts are wash and dry then iron. BUT I had a roommate who swore by Dryel at home and her clothes always looked impeccable. http://www.dryel.com

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
