Hope your week has been incredible! We’re all expecting much needed rain in SoCal but it’s been looking like this!

IMG_2650Here are some toppers from the week…

1. Oh I’m going to make this trip to San Diego this weekend! I’m ready now! There is some great friend time ahead. I just have to take it easy and try not to kill myself seeing every person I miss from living there!

2.. I did a little guest post/intro on the very kind, lovely and majorly organized Jade and Oak today. Please check it out! Her pugs are amazing and enviable. There will be a group giveaway on the blog this coming Tuesday.

3. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve picked up this new Rifle Paper Co. pad this week and It’s changed my life! You can find a similar one online here. I purchased this one (and another as a gift) at the store. Trust me, there may be one little thing on this list in the photo but this thing is packed now!

4. It’s warm enough for smoothies in LA and this was my fave of the week: bleuberrry, banana, greek yogurt and chia seed. Fun drinks make up a bit for the cocktails I miss sometimes. 🙂Blueberry banana greek yogurt smoothie

5. On one of the morning walks this week I was in SUCH an energetic and great mood. I was nonstop talking and pointing. “Look, 4 birds!” Chris looks up, half asleep and says flatly, “five birds.” Awkward. What’s wrong with me!? I’ve got to get better at counting if I’m going to be a mom.

Oh, SAM! We are so spoiled here, huh? How is the shop doing in the rain?? Super busy? San Diegans don’t do much when it rains…but they still go out to eat/drink! I hope to visit you when I do a longer visit and go into the real SD…I did the North County thang this weekend. It was so amazing, thank you!. I have lists on my iPhone but this calendar really kept me from wasting time and it’s just so pretty that it motivates me. Enjoy your weekend! Hopefully the sun will return soon!! XO

Totally cracked up at the 4 birds part. Reminds me of when I was pregnant and tried to say ‘kill 2 birds with 1 stone’, yeah…totally came out as ‘2 dead birds’! I’m happy you’re finally making the trip to SD after the meltdown last week. Hope it’s even more fun than you were expecting!

Hi! Came over from Jade and Oak 🙂
I love that notepad! I absolutely need and want one. Thanks for the link!
Oh, and smoothies are my addiction. I think that is why I don’t crave fruity cocktails all the time in summer. One of my faves: cooled green tea, fresh mint leaves, chopped mango and baby lettuce. Delish and so refreshing!

A friend of mine developed this drink called Mama Chia and it has been a phenomenon. You can buy them at Whole foods etc. The drinks are incredible…but a bit pricey so I buy chia seeds ground up for smoothies and solid for soaking in juice myself! You’ve gotta be a texture person for the latter. Enjoy!

I think I’ll be fine with the texture. I’ve had basil seed drinks because of my Vietnamese upbringing and the seeds look similar and get gelatinous too so I wonder if it’s the same. Do you have any more tips/recommendations for incorporating chia seeds into my diet?

OOO basil seed drinks sound amazing-I’ve never even heard of them…want! My friend puts them on her son’s yogurt. I’ve had them in cold cereal, hot cereal, juice, smoothies and I bet they would be good sprinkled on salads! If they aren’t soaked then they are just kind of like adding flax seed to something. Let me know how it goes!

I totally remember using the snow in the back of my friend’s truck bed to cool the wine we were bringing to a tasting dinner! LOL. There are perks, right? 😉 Enjoy your weekend!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.

The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! I The baby diaper brown paint was stealing my joy! It felt overwhelming to figure out the style, solutions and repairs this patio needed.

When you’re overwhelmed, it’s just that you’ve got to figure out your priorities.

When Everything feels equally important the list is too long and you feel paralyzed with where to start.

This goes for your day today-unspiral from the overwhelm and focus on the priorities.

When I was ready to stop looking at that terrible color, I got out the paint samples and started imagining the deck all white.

What helped me what visiting a nearby winery that had a similar structure. It was Texas but still had a European vibe and fit into the landscape.

Get out there and soak up some beautiful inspiration.

I made this project my focus for a month and then called the painters and then moved on to the rest of the exterior in chunks. Then it was time to call the painters!

to say I’m obsessed with it would be an understatement.

It brightens this whole room

The green trees on the property just pop against it. The blue of the water looks even more crystal clear.

This big blank wall in the living room made me fee This big blank wall in the living room made me feel like I was living in a box with no personality or charm.

It felt so drab and cold.

Without even measuring, I purchased the sideboard on the spot at @theporch in Round Top and brought it home.

It fit!

I knew it was me because it had neutral tones and a french feel.

It has evolved over the years and it almost feels like a built in part of our home at this point.

The large art was a definite yes. I had seen it for years and it felt so me.

That’s how I know an investment piece is right-it will feel so YOU!

The formula for this vignette:
A base piece of furniture
Large scale art
Picture Light
Frames
Lamps
Piled books
Objects of interest

You can feel even in this small area before and after design that the feeling has changed!

Tiny changes create massive emotional shifts.

Now this space makes me feel comforted, rich in life and rooted.

Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/bra Comment COLOR and I’ll dm you the exact colors/brands that we used to achieve this look.

We lived here for years before tackling the exterior and it was kind of painful.

Every time I’d drive home, I knew I loved my house but geez it was so BROWN!

It felt like an old mission or outpost.

It didn’t feel like me and it kind of dragged me down.

I’m a woman who lives a beautiful life, what’s wrong with my house? ha!

I kept looking at photos of other homes to see what could be achieved here.

although I couldn’t find exact matches, I got inspired and bold.

I knew I was always drawn to white and yellow homes the most so I just started testing.

It was horrifying part way through because there is no going back!

Remember this: You have to see it in your mind first and then it can become a reality. It’s ok if it takes a few steps in the wrong direction, just keep at it and the look will come to life in your mind.

You’ll know when it’s right. Then call the painters!
