I hope you had a lovely weekend! I did too but it started off crummy for me! I was planning on going to San Diego on Friday but at the last minute, changed my plans! There are lots of really amazing things about being pregnant and I’ll write about those things more later. The thing that has been most challenging is my change in energy level-especially the social energy kind.
I had mistakenly thought a dinner party on Friday night in San Diego (2.5 hours away from our home in LA) was for ladies only and I found out at the last minute that it was for couples. OOPS! Normally that would be no problem: I would just go by myself anyway or Chris could adjust his schedule and go with me.
Because of the last minute realization, Chris’ workload, no nearby established dog sitter (we’re new to town), LA Friday traffic, a few hours to try to coordinate this new scenario and my overwhelm of trying to make it all happen, blah blah…
I had a full-blown, the world is ending, melt down.
Crying, calling Chris at work, staring, tissue balling and sobbing. This meltdown pretty much wiped me out for the rest of the day weekend (crazy, right). I cancelled my lunch plans with a couple of girlfriends and canceled the dinner party as well. It was too much for me to consume at the last minute. This is the second time this sort of thing has happened during pregnancy!
I felt SO sad because I miss my friends in San Diego terribly and I had been wildly anticipating this trip. I also felt like I had let people down and then embarrassed for not being “myself,” the person who was up for anything with boundless energy, amicability and flexibiity. They were all very understanding and I am going to try this again next week!
So how did I flip this around? Well, I called up Jen for an emergency lunch date: an all you can eat Indian buffet on Melrose. We worked on some programming/design for her website. Nothing cures disappointment for me like an OCD project. It’s better than ice cream or donuts.
Chris took me to this awesome hike/path on Saturday and I got to “jog” for the second time this week. It’s slow and plodding but it is AWESOME. Running has always made me so happy. I wanted Chris to take photos so I could have “proof” and memories of being pregnant, active and lovin’ it.
Running with this little bowling ball gives me a funny gait but it’s cute and I like it! I went slow and took lots of breaks. It was glorious.
Then I made some chocolate chip, walnut banana bread (the one I’ve had pegged on Pinterest). I got/modified the recipe via Pam of A Little Glitter, via I Heart Naptime aaaaaaand it’s killer. It made 2 loaves: one for us and one for Chris’ parents.
We tied up the weekend with a family birthday party for Chris’ stepmom at a fun Mexican restaurant. It was so great hanging out with family. THENNNNN I took a 2 hour nap. Happy or Else, right?
Thank you for all the great comments on my site updates and photos! They make me the happiest! XO
What do you do to turn around when you’re sad?
Bethany C says
No shame in canceling plans or having meltdowns! I did the same thing. You look so cute with your little bump! Hope you can make it to SD soon so I can live vicariously through you!
Christina Warren says
Aw, thanks, Bethany! Tomorrow will be the trip to SD take 2! 🙂 It’s supposed to rain all weekend (we need it, right) but I will LOVE it all the same.

first off that chocolate chip banana walnut bread looks amazing! and you’re so cute with your tummy 🙂 i’m glad that even though your weekend started out kinda blah it ended well 🙂 sometimes you need to just hang out and not worry about anything <3
Christina Warren says
Thank you, Diana! That bread is killer! Yes, exactly-hang out and not worry about anything. That’s what I’ve been trying to do my whole life! 🙂 My husband is good at that and it helps me so much!

I think it’s great to honor and take care of yourself when you are out of sorts. It happens, and especially when you are pregnant. Great post.
Christina Warren says
That is a really nice way to put it, Michele. 🙂 Thanks! I get so caught up in how everyone else feels! This is a really big lesson-filled transition!
BlushandBarbells says
I fully believe that exercise is the solution to pretty much every problem. Especially if you’re feeling blue, nothing is better than working up a sweat!
Christina Warren says
You are so right. I really miss those hard, stress breaking workouts! I gotta say though, some of my yoga classes are fall-on-the-ground tough! So I’m thankful for those!
The Grits says
Girl I am sorry you had a melt down – like Abby said, Darn hormones!! I have these like once a quarter – so don’t feel too bad. Congrats on the jogging!! I don’t know that I would be that motivated pregnant, so major kudos to you girl!
Christina Warren says
Totally hormones! 🙂 I’ve alway been kind of dependent (unknowingly until now) on running to keep me upbeat. I will take even a little if I can! 🙂 Thanks for the support!
Christina Warren says
You saved my day….weekend!!! Thanks, Jen as always for everything. XOXOOX
Abby says
Aww, I’m sorry to hear you had a melt down (darn hormones, they get me every time and I’m not even pregnant… you get the extra emotional mommy pass, for sure!) but, I’m happy to see your weekend turned around and ended on a happy note. Your “baby bump” is too cute!! And jogging?! You go girl!!
Christina Warren says
Thanks, Abby. 🙂 I seriously want a “mommy pass!” It’s hard giving myself permission to do things “for myself” when I feel like I’m letting people down! The weekend turned out great and I’m glad for the lesson in learning to take it easier on myself.

when I pregnant- a milk shake did wonder and sometimes 2. and that chocolate chip banana bread looks delish!
Christina Warren says
Oh, Erika…milkshakes. I drove to In and Out Burger for a vanilla shake like and hour after a lunch date with a girlfriend b/c I was starving…ah-gain. 🙂 This bread is killer. I’m gonna try it with some almond flour next time…and more chocolate chips. 🙂
Jessica (Coco/Mingo) says
I’m glad that you were able to salvage your weekend despite the little melt down – but it’s totally okay!! I guess you can blame it on the pregnancy – haha! I mean, chocolate chip banana bread can automatically make me go from miserable to the happiest girl alive. I hope it did for you 🙂 ALSO, I LOVE the new logo, lady! AND your new, beautiful profile photo!!
Christina Warren says
Seriously, Jessica, my life is so blessed, I better have been able to salvage it! 🙂 LOL Thank you so much for your encouragement in design!!!!! Love that you love it! I’m addicted to hand lettering now. XO
Niina, It seems pretty obvious says
Sounds like a good weekend despite the change of plans and the melt-down. Those kind of melt-downs can happen to anyone, pregnant or not. I’ve been through those kind of melt-downs without being pregnant even if it’s really unusual. Oh gosh! I just realized that if I can get those kind of melt-downs without being pregnant what will happen if I ever get pregnant? SUPER MELT_DOWNS haha 🙂 Have an amazing week!
Christina Warren says
Bwahahahha-Niina, if someone lived in Germany would they have UBER meltdowns? 🙂 I’ve been kind of a doornail when it comes to moodswings but as I get older…or pregnant, it’s coming! Thanks for the support! 🙂
Thien Do says
I’m trying to imagine you running with your baby bump! All the talk about the crazy pregnancy hormones must be true. I hope you don’t beat yourself up too much over missing your dinner. I’m sure your friends don’t mind! I’m an overthinker when I’m sad so I just try my best to keep busy. Doing anythinggg.
Christina Warren says
LOL-please don’t imagine it too much… or please imagine me to look like a gazelle! 🙂 I am with you on getting busy. Some of my friends have benefited from my breakups, disappointments etc with organized homes etc. 🙂
Alisia says
You poor thing! This is my first time on your blog and I feel so bad that you had a melt down. I’ve heard that things like that happen when you are pregnant because of the changes in your body and whatnot. I’m glad Chris was able to turn your weekend around. I actually just had a melt down on Valentine’s Day, I posed about it on my blog. I just use my work to distract me, so glad your friend was around for the emergency lunch!
So glad I found your blog!

Christina Warren says
LOL I hope I can make a better impression on you! 😉 I’m going to have to see the Valentine’s Day bomb! Seriously so lucky to have a friend who can do emergency Indian food with me. Nice to meet you!!!
Pamela Bannon says
Awwww, Christina! I can totally relate! I also had meltdowns like that when I was pregnant. Hormones stink sometimes! I’m glad you made that banana bread! How good is it? Mmmmm. I wish I had some right now! Hang in there and have a great day!
Christina Warren says
Isn’t it just cray? You made a lot of people’s days, endorsing that recipe! Seriously, my inlaws are LOVING it (if it’s still there) and ours is down to a nub just 2.5 days later!
jackie jade says
I get wildly emotional about things too, especially when I have plans and they don’t work out. and i’m not even pregnant so totally understand. glad the weekend turned around for you!
Christina Warren says
Yes, it’s when plans don’t work out. That’s always been hard for me even when I wasn’t pregnant too! Thank you for making me feel human. 🙂
