Living in Alignment as a Mom of Four: The Rhythms, Routines, and Mindset That Keep Me Grounded

May 21, 2025 · In: Motherhood

💫 Before you dive in: If you’re curious about how to align your daily life with YOUR natural strengths, there’s a free personalized Energetic Personality Blueprint waiting for you at the bottom of this post. It’s been a game changer for me as a mom – wildly transformative.

What’s working, what’s evolving, and how I’m showing up in business and motherhood with more harmony (and less hustle)

I’ll never forget what a psychiatrist friend once casually told me -The most common thing people will come in for is some form of adjustment disorder. There is a change or changes in their life and they are struggling to adjust. WOW-this little insight has helped me so much in everything from motherhood to entrepreneurship. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, there’s a change and its NORMAL to struggle with the adjustment.

I’ve become more comfortable embracing that staying aligned isn’t about doing more—it’s about checking in and adjusting my patterns to fit the season I’m in.

Right now, that season looks like this: I’m a mom of four (ages 1.5, 5, 9, and 11), breastfeeding and I’m balancing school events, toddler life, and creative goals with as much grace (and as much humor as I can squeeze out of inconsistent sleep) as I can manage.

Here’s what’s working, what I’m shifting, and how I’m keeping my energy steady while honoring both my family and my business dreams.

What’s Currently Working

  • Intentional Movement: Recently I scaled back to breastfeeding twice a day (morning and night) which as given me a huge shift in energy. I’ve now easily been doing 7,500 steps a day and I started a simple 15-minute Pilates workout I do while kids do chores after school. It’s not perfect, but it sets a tone for new patterns of fitness and self esteem.
  • Leaning Into Quiet Creativity: I haven’t been posting as much on Instagram lately. My creative energy toward my blog and newsletter—two places that feel grounding, personal, and impactful has been flowing! I’ve learned to listen to my energy (PS Human Design is magical for showing you how to do this) and it’s kept me satisfied.
  • Structured Flexibility: I rely on rhythms more than rigid routines. Good toddler naps = blog or Canva time. Bad sleep night = be a present parent and play with littles/let the to-do list slide. Get a babysitter for a few hours a week and indulge creative energy (life-changing).
  • Nourishment Hubs: Instead of being everywhere all the time, I’ve poured intention into spaces that nourish my community —my blog resource page, our Oils Facebook group, my Instagram highlights, and the weekly newsletter.

What I’m Letting Go Of

  • The Pressure to Be On Daily: What matters more is that when I do show up with friends, my community, it’s with presence and value.
  • One-Size-Fits-All Productivity: With a toddler on my hip and older kids needing rides, chess games and support, I’ve stopped comparing my workflow to someone else’s 9-5 schedule. Instead, I’m optimizing my own energy windows—and respecting my capacity.
  • Perfection in Every Mealtime: Sometimes I’m eating at the counter while people are at the dinner table. I’ve made meals for the family and then retreating to my room to watch a show (Frasier). It’s a season and I’m reassuring myself that it’s all good.

The Tools Keeping Me Aligned

  • Cycle Awareness: Syncing my creative work with my energy (and hormones!) has made a huge difference.
  • Energy Check-Ins: A quick Heart Coherence (Heart Math) and prayer reminds me who I am and what I actually need that day.
  • Batch Cooking: Meal prep (especially breakfast) keeps mornings easier, reduces decision fatigue. (I even created a batch cooking resource with recipes to make it easier)
  • Grace Over Guilt: I remind myself daily that alignment doesn’t mean doing it all. It means doing what matters most, and letting that be enough. I keep reminding myself that I’m not letting everyone down all the time.

Creating My Summer Rhythm

  • Instead of thinking about schedules as rigid, I like to think of them as seasonal rhythms. In this season of life with young kids and growing dreams, my summer rhythm includes:

    • Early Movement to anchor everyone’s energy.
    • 90’s Summer Mentality. I’ve got a whole post with checklist for those of you who want to feel that nostalgic slow summer HERE.
    • Midday Rest/Reset when possible
    • Creative Blocks during naptime or babysitting hours.
    • Evening Family Time that’s unplugged and slow
    • Weekend Buffer so I’m not constantly in work mode.

This isn’t about getting it perfect. It’s about paying attention to what helps me feel alive, present, and supported—and adjusting as needed.

A Gentle Nudge for You

If you’re in a season of adjustment too, you’re not alone. Alignment isn’t a destination, it’s a practice. Give yourself permission to change things, to rest, to write, to stretch, and to pull back when you need to.

Something that has been very powerful is that I’ve been sharing this with my close friends and they have met me with so much compassion. It can feel like a weakness and being vulnerable isn’t always easy.

Until then, keep showing up for your life, not just your to-do list. You’re doing better than you think.

Want help tuning into your unique strengths?

If you’re in a season of change, and/or juggling motherhood, routines and your own goals—it helps to know exactly how you thrive. Your energy, your rhythm, your magic.

I’ve found something that’s been wildly helpful in giving me clarity, especially as a mom: a free custom personality blueprint based on your unique birth details. Think of it as a mix between a personality test and an energetic life map.

I got pregnant with our youngest child (4th child) I got pregnant with our youngest child (4th child) when I was 43. This was after 2 miscarriages.

Even those previous pregnancies looked better on labs and scans but this time the labs and scans said a miscarrage was 100% going to happen.

I was so confused. I knew my baby girl was coming.

I had prayed the St. Theresa Novena and received a rose. I was getting older. A third miscarriage in a row? How?

I remember crying in the office after the doctor left the room. No, not again. I loved that little baby already. It did feel different this time.

There are things in this world that we cannot see that are working at all times all around us.

I was so deeply connected to that energy during her pregnancy.
The doctor was shocked at every appointment.

My labs and scans quickly and dramatically improved and she was here.
Transforming this room for her was very joyful work.

Once I was holding her and I looked into her eyes. I said, “We have been waiting for you, little one.” I had a tear in my eye.

Her expression was so different than what I had seen from her before. She looked into my eyes with a searching look.

Then she hugged me and said, “Mommy, I love you so much.”

Our lives can change in an instant. They aren’t’ fixed. Possibility is everywhere.

Comment the word PLANT for all my houseplant info- Comment the word PLANT for all my houseplant info-what I have, how to care etc.

My girl math says anything over 8 pounds doesn’t go back to the store.

That’s kind of untrue…if it’s over 8 pounds, I’ll ask my husband to do it!

This is made for outdoor but I love the tulip like vibe to it and I am freshening up some little decor items around the house.

It feels so good in here.

The texture and weight of this planter made me love it too. It looks expensive and it’s not going to tip over with my giant plants.

Our houseplants make our home. I HIGHLY recommend you get some if you don’t already.

Ask me your questions in the comments. 🪴

House plants make your home cozy, fresh and alive. The energy is palpable.

My husband brought home a gorgeous arrangement lik My husband brought home a gorgeous arrangement like this from the florist on my birthday and I’ve been recreating it with grocery store flowers ever since.

it’s simply one bunch of hydrangeas (3stems) and one bouquet of peonies.

you can make this so quickly and it looks like an arrangement that belongs on someone’s desk or side table at an estate. Just that little extra thing that is over the top but changes everything.

I find the cutest vessels at home goods and then place a smaller glass container inside.

This floral arrangement is so fast, great for making your home feel luxurious and beautiful.

You know I love the faux florals these days but nothing makes you feel like you’re thriving like a fresh bouquet.

That raises your vibe which raises your experience.

Wishing you a great day!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.
