Want More Energy? How Batch Cooking Changed My Mom Life (and the Shortcut Recipes I Swear By—Free Download Inside!)

July 24, 2022 · In: Healthy Recipes, Recipes

💫 Before you scroll—don’t forget to grab my free download of favorite batch cooking shortcut recipes at the bottom of this post. These are the exact recipes I return to again and again when I need quick wins that still feel nourishing.

Batch cooking is going to change your life!

If you’re a busy mom constantly juggling the ever evolving to-do list, batch cooking might just be the energy hack you’ve been missing. As someone obsessed with all things efficiency, alignment, and energy mastery, I can tell you—nothing has freed up more brain space, time, and actual energy in my week than learning how to prep meals in bulk.

Whether you’re deep into motherhood, building a business, or just trying to get dinner on the table without losing your mind, batch cooking for moms is the ultimate shortcut. And don’t worry—this isn’t about spending your whole Sunday in the kitchen.

I’ve learned how to make this work in a way that supports my values of ease, flow, and feeling good in your body and your home.

After a month of eating out on vacation in Costa Rica one summer, we decided to challenge ourselves to batch cooking and eating the majority of our meals at home.

It cuts down on waste, saves money, better for our health and saves us SO much time in cooking, prepping, driving to get takeout, money/wasted groceries etc.

We love restaurants but we didn’t want to be getting takeout just because it was 5pm and we had no idea what to eat. Now, eating out is back to being an appreciated treat!

What do I Mean by Batch Cooking?

Batch cooking is making large meals like a big casserole or a big batch of granola so it’s eaten throughout the week.

I batch prep the produce as well:

Washing all the berries, grapes etc and placing in airtight containers so they’re ready to pack for lunches or added to meals.

Salad components like tomatoes and cucumbers are chopped up and ready to make a salad for a lunch or dinner.

PS. Blanched green beans are a great example of prepping veggies that keep well and go great with entrees or in salads. I just put green beans in boiling water for 3 minutes and dump them in an ice bath. Drain after they are cool and store in an airtight container!

I’m going to show you a simple way to plan the week:

Batch cooking Sample Menu

BREAKFAST

Granola over yogurt (printable recipe below)

I cannot do packaged granola. It tastes sickeningly sweet to me! This uses maple syrup and tastes divine!

Breakfast Cookies

Breakfast Casserole (print my recipe below)

Banana Bread

Baked Oatmeal Bars

Overnight Oats (printable recipe below)

Make these in a single large container for self serving and preparation ease.

LUNCH

Same things as dinner or sandwiches

Plus a big salad or cut up veggies plus hummus

DINNER

Casserole (This enchilada casserole is a hit here. I make mods all the time. Recently I do quinoa instead of rice).

My Turkey Meat Loafies (printable recipe below)

My Mom’s Super Simple and delicious Korean Style Stir Fry (printable recipe below)

Meatballs keep well in the fridge. We liked these recently.

Cook a bunch of chicken in the instant pot and shred to tacos and casseroles. Mix it with some mayo and it’s a great sandwich or salad item!

Batch Cooking Best Practices!

  • Do plan out your recipes and grocery list together.
  • Pantry management:

-Start your recipe picks by seeing what you have.

-Once you’re done with the grocery list, head to the pantry and cross off what you have.

  • Don’t shop and cook it all in one day…I did this and it burnt me out! 😉
  • Keep a list on the fridge to make note of when you run out of regulars ie. Coffee Creamer or condiments that get emptied. Add this to your master list each week.
  • Eat a great meal before you head out shopping. Keeps you on track with your list. Sticking to the list will keep you healthier and save the most dollah bills!
  • You can do the major cooking/prep a few days a week, spread out. This allows for overlap of meals and variety!

How I Got Started and How it's Going

At first, our fridge was empty when we got home from our month long trip. I did a big Costco trip for things like nuts & maple syrup (for granola), organic chicken and meats for the freezer and great organic produce in large quantities.

For the first 2 weeks, I did all the cooking on Sundays and it was A LOT. I cracked and wanted to give up! Ha! Then I  discovered a way to do a couple meals at a time throughout the week and it’s working out great!

The key is to cook more than one thing whenever you are in the kitchen.

Evenings run smoother and our days are SO much more relaxing and efficient. I’m not stressing all day, wondering what to make for dinner. This is going to CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

PS now there is breakfast so if I sleep in then my husband, who’s a total morning person, reheats the kids’ faves instead of running to the beloved Starbies! 🙂 Huge money and time, mom guilt and health saver!

I got pregnant with our youngest child (4th child) I got pregnant with our youngest child (4th child) when I was 43. This was after 2 miscarriages.

Even those previous pregnancies looked better on labs and scans but this time the labs and scans said a miscarrage was 100% going to happen.

I was so confused. I knew my baby girl was coming.

I had prayed the St. Theresa Novena and received a rose. I was getting older. A third miscarriage in a row? How?

I remember crying in the office after the doctor left the room. No, not again. I loved that little baby already. It did feel different this time.

There are things in this world that we cannot see that are working at all times all around us.

I was so deeply connected to that energy during her pregnancy.
The doctor was shocked at every appointment.

My labs and scans quickly and dramatically improved and she was here.
Transforming this room for her was very joyful work.

Once I was holding her and I looked into her eyes. I said, “We have been waiting for you, little one.” I had a tear in my eye.

Her expression was so different than what I had seen from her before. She looked into my eyes with a searching look.

Then she hugged me and said, “Mommy, I love you so much.”

Our lives can change in an instant. They aren’t’ fixed. Possibility is everywhere.

Comment the word PLANT for all my houseplant info- Comment the word PLANT for all my houseplant info-what I have, how to care etc.

My girl math says anything over 8 pounds doesn’t go back to the store.

That’s kind of untrue…if it’s over 8 pounds, I’ll ask my husband to do it!

This is made for outdoor but I love the tulip like vibe to it and I am freshening up some little decor items around the house.

It feels so good in here.

The texture and weight of this planter made me love it too. It looks expensive and it’s not going to tip over with my giant plants.

Our houseplants make our home. I HIGHLY recommend you get some if you don’t already.

Ask me your questions in the comments. 🪴

House plants make your home cozy, fresh and alive. The energy is palpable.

My husband brought home a gorgeous arrangement lik My husband brought home a gorgeous arrangement like this from the florist on my birthday and I’ve been recreating it with grocery store flowers ever since.

it’s simply one bunch of hydrangeas (3stems) and one bouquet of peonies.

you can make this so quickly and it looks like an arrangement that belongs on someone’s desk or side table at an estate. Just that little extra thing that is over the top but changes everything.

I find the cutest vessels at home goods and then place a smaller glass container inside.

This floral arrangement is so fast, great for making your home feel luxurious and beautiful.

You know I love the faux florals these days but nothing makes you feel like you’re thriving like a fresh bouquet.

That raises your vibe which raises your experience.

Wishing you a great day!

Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to k Comment the word WOOD for everything you need to know to make choosing wood floors simple.

I make it easy and answer things like “what direction do I lay them?”

I was pregnant when we were renovating this home and I make different kinds of decisions when I’m pregnant. Anyone else?

I started thinking I wanted tile-wood-look flooring or fake wood because I saw all these Texas homes that did not use wood.

There must be a reason?

Was it the weather? The cost bc the homes are big? Pets? I thought I’d be responsible and choose something hardy…

Except I only like wood!

It’s really a personal preference and a lifestyle thing.
I LOVE natural materials and there is nothing like wood flooring to make a home feel cozy and expensive.

Almost 7 years later and we are still in love with these.
The feeling of your home is so powerful in creating the movie in your mind of what a dream life really is.

Renovations can feel overwhelming. It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and knowing what you love.

The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Co The high kitchen shelf from Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” kitchen was living rent free in my brain.

I’ve lived so so many places as a kid and adult. Whenever I move into a place and it feels sterile, I stress!

I need a lived in feeling and this dining room was giving me temporary apartment vibes.

Seriously, decor and design can make ANY space feel like a home. Your home.

I spend a lot of time sanding this. It was actually really therapeutic actually as I was processing the passing of an old friend.

I was also caught grief sanding in my garage wearing what I call my urban YETI uniform when a neighbor dropped by.

I looked like a crazy person (I am). It gave me a laugh.

I love how it turned out. It gives the space an opportunity for decorative objects, and feels like a cozy little roof.

It also turned the blinds into a sort of inset blind vibe that elevates the tone.

I had these outside mounted so they match the rest of the room where some windows require it.

It’s 8 inches deep. That’s the measurement that felt right and it fit my future French soup tureens.

You’ve got to take a chance if you want something incredible. It’s just nails, paint and time. It holds the feeling of your home.

When your home reflects what you feel inside, your experience in life just improves everywhere.
