Every home decor image always has a beautiful houseplant and there is a reason why! Beautiful houseplants give life to a space. They add an organic element visually and physically they improve your air quality.
You want at least one pop of green in a room. Today I’m sharing 2 of my favorite, big impact, beautiful houseplants. For more plants and how to care for them, download my free plant guide at the end of this post!
Two beautiful houseplants that make a huge impact
The two beautiful houseplants you see in this post are:
1. Fiddle Leaf Fig
2. Audrey Ficus
These make such an impact on a room with their large scale and fullness. You can find them in different shapes like single narrow stalks or more like a tree. Searching for your vibe might take a few trips but it’s worth it! I’ve had some Ficus trees (see a gorgeous one here) and they are impactful as well and making a comeback in design.
where to buy the most beautiful houseplants
These plants can range anywhere from $35 for a small size to $$$$ for large trees.
Places to shop:
1. Home Depot or Lowe’s: be sure to check the indoor as well as the outdoor section for these. Springtime is when they are really stocked well.
2. Local Nursury: This is going to be pricey BUT you will have a higher quality in aesthetic, size variations and selection any time of year.
3. Costco: Many Costcos have pallets of fiddles in the spring and I’m hoping that with the popularity of the Audry Ficus increasing, they may start getting in these as well.
4. Grocery Store: Keep an eye out for these at your local grocer!
I paid about $40 (Costco) for this fiddle leaf fig (this had grown a year here in the photo at our California home) and $165 for this Audrey Ficus (from a nursery).
How to make your plant look bigger
You can save “time” and money by lifting your plant in a basket. What I mean is to find a basket or vessel that is taller than your plastic grow pot (that thin plastic pot it comes in) and then insert a little box.
Then add your plastic liner to keep water from dripping out of your grow pot.
One of my favorite places to get plant baskets is HERE.
Now your plant looks more mature instantly. You can save money by buying a smaller size.
How to care for these beautiful houseplants
Both of these plants love a similar care routine.
LIGHT
They like bright, indirect light, preferably morning light.
WATER
These plants like to be on the dry side. I water them once a week with a large mason jar full of water. Make sure they are quite dry before you water them again the next week. If they are still a bit wet then use a little less water this time.
TIPS
If there is an uneven light source then turn your plant a quarter turn each week when you water.
Keep leaves free of dust.
Always check in with your plant to see that new growth looks healthy and check for plant pests. Some pests look like white fuzzy cotton or tiny bugs. Google these and treat right away. Sometimes it’s as simple as getting your plant outside and hosing those yuckies away with a stiff sprayer.
Make TINY adjustments. I have killed plants because they looked to dry so I over watered them. I’ve killed plants because the pot didn’t have enough drainage so it was just sitting in water and died. You need to repot these with dry soil and let that root ball dry out, girl! Get a better drainage situation with more holes in your pot or a different pot.
Keep plants away from drafts like strong blowing AC vents. I’ve killed a plant that way too!
what to do if your plant dies
I’m here for you! Look, don’t beat yourself up! Learn from this and get a new plant! Don’t stare at a dying plant. It’s not good for the vibe of your space!
If you have a less used area of your home, send it there and help it recoup or put it outside!
Plants are an investment, yes, but if you get one and enjoy it for months, it’s already paid for itself and more. Watch and learn here 🙂
Start again! Maybe you need a new spot or a different plant.
