Are you “good” at spending other people’s money? I’m not. I spend it as if every cent that goes out is like sqeezing blood from a stone (Thank you, Sandy-Navy Ship’s roommate, for that saying). Now that I’m married and not working, I fell like I’m always spending someone else’s money unless it comes from my own checking and savings accounts.
Example:
Flying home from a weekend trip on my own and I choose to take the $5 bus from the airport to my house. A cab costs about $50 so I think, “I can’t spend HIS money on that!” I’ll take the wrong bus in the opposite direction on a dark and rainy night, get off at a sketchy depot and run around scary people with my huge suitcase and expensive handbag (gift from parents) looking for the correct bus to take home on a total trip time of one hour (I live 25 minutes from the airport). AHHHH! Home for $5 or ELSE!
Then as I go shopping for fancy denim (possibly at Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom), I buy the Paige, Hudsons or Citizens of Humanity for circa $180 from my own account. P.S. all these brands are kind to the curvy persuasion. Yay! I buy most of my dresses and other clothes from Marshalls or T.J. Maxx for under $40.
I end up making bad choices-ones based solely on price. A pair of amazing jeans lasts for years-worth the investment! Hiring good movers is invaluable! I’ve got to find a way to use the sense of spending that got me this far on my own in my current situation.
How does an unemployed housewife spend money? How do you get a sense of one person’s income being “everyone’s” money? Did I mention we are staying at an AWESOME condo in Malibu, California this week and going to Europe soon for a couple of weeks? I know.
